A Resolution
Dedicating the Orland Park Civic Center to the memory of the late William R
Vogel
Bill served two terms as an Orland Park
Trustee. Bill was very active in the Orland Park Lions, serving more than
one term as President. Bill also was a recipient of the distinguished Melvin
Jones Award, the highest honor that the International Lions Club awards to
it's members. He
was the first Orland Park Lion to ever receive this prestigious award. Bill
also served on the Board of Directors for Recording for the Blind and
Dyslexic, Inc. in Orland Park, the Wabash Historical Society, and the Old
Orland Heritage Foundation. An avid railroad historian, Bill was
responsible for creating Orland Park's "History Park" at 153rd Street
Commuter Station, displaying a 1923 boxcar and a 1956 caboose that he worked
to restore to original condition.
Bill served as a United Way Director for 42 years, co-chaired Orland Park's
1992 Centennial Commission, served with the Friends of the Orland Park
Library, served on the Orland Township Youth Commission, and conducted
fundraising efforts for Shady Oaks Cerebral Palsy Camp.
In 1988, Bill's civic involvement was recognized when he was named Orland
Township Citizen of the Year.
The above information is why we honor Bill Vogel with a
